SEND EOTAS &
ALTERNATIVE PROVISION

The PMActive coaching team harness the power of power of physical activity to improve wellbeing, build confidence, and re-engage young people in their learning journey

How we can help

At PMActive, we believe the correct provision can be transformative in improving wellbeing, build confidence, and re-engage young people in their learning journey. We deliver specialist Alternative Provision (AP) and EOTAS support tailored to meet individual needs for children and young people across Surrey, including Guildford, Woking, Redhill, Epsom and surrounding areas.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EOTAS & ALTERNATIVE PROVISION?

Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) and Alternative Provision (AP) are both ways to provide education outside of a mainstream school, but they differ in their purpose and how they are arranged.

EOTAS (Education Otherwise Than At School) is a type of education funded by the local authority for children and young people who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) but are unable to attend a mainstream or special school due to their individual needs.

An EOTAS package is a tailored support plan designed to meet the specific educational, emotional, and social needs of the young person. These packages are agreed upon by the local authority and can be managed either by the parents (via a personal budget) or directly by the local authority.

Alternative Provision (AP) is education arranged outside of a mainstream school for students who are unable to attend regular classes. This may be due to exclusion, illness, or other challenges that make a traditional school environment unsuitable.

AP is provided by either local authorities or schools themselves and is designed to:

  • Re-engage children and young people with learning

  • Meet their individual educational and emotional needs

  • Support their return to school or prepare them for adult life

Our LSA services are designed to reflect each young person's EHCP outcomes, interests, and learning style.

  • Individualised Academic Support - We can work closely with educational tutors to enhance the learning experience. Our LSAs help young people understand key concepts, complete assignments, and develop essential skills such as literacy and numeracy, all at a pace that supports success and reduces anxiety. This academic support strengthens engagement and reinforces educational goals.

  • Social and Emotional Development - Our LSAs foster social skills, emotional wellbeing, and self-esteem by building trust and communication through consistent one-to-one relationships and positive reinforcement strategies. They support young people in developing resilience, managing emotions, and building positive relationships—helping them feel more confident and better equipped to engage with learning and everyday life.

  • Flexible, Responsive Delivery - Support can take place at home, in community settings, or alongside other services (e.g., sport & movement coaching or travel training), with an emphasis on routine, consistency, and emotional safety.

  • EHCP-Aligned Progress - All support is linked to the EHCP with progress monitored and fed back to families and professionals.

Travel Training

At PMActive, we understand that developing real-world independence is just as important as classroom learning. That’s why we offer a Travel Training programme designed to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in learning how to travel safely and confidently on their own. Our travel training focuses on building the essential skills and knowledge needed to use public transport, pedestrian routes, and other travel options independently.

  • Increasing Independence

  • Improving Confidence and Self-Esteem

  • Promoting Social Inclusion.

  • Supporting Employment Readiness

  • Enhancing Quality of Life

PMActive’s travel training is tailored to each individual’s needs and current level of independence, covering route planning and journey rehearsals, understanding timetables, signs, and transport etiquette, road safety and awareness, managing unexpected situations such as delays or missed stops, and building routines for regular journeys.
